Research summary

I am currently working on a book project that explores 'listening spaces' in contemporary French and Francophone documentaries, with a focus on the documentary convention of the filmed interview. Part of this project is particularly concerned with works by the Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman. Other research interests that dovetail with this project include queer theory, feminist theory, installation art, and studies of sound, voice, and relationality. Albertine joined the Department of French at Bristol in 2017. Before this, she completed a BA in French with Music, an MA by Research on the films of Marguerite Duras, and a PhD in French at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her PhD thesis was entitled 'Acoustic Spectatorship: the 1980s film and video work of Jean-Luc Godard'. Following her doctoral studies, she was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship in Modern & Medieval Languages at Churchill College, Cambridge where she began her latest book project on listening and documentary film.
