I was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, University College, Cork, and the University of Durham. After graduating, I followed a performance career as an organist, giving recitals in the cathedrals of St Patrick's, Dublin (where I was organ scholar), Hereford and St Davids. For almost ten years I sang as alto lay clerk in St. Patrick's and broadcast with the choir on Irish national radio (RTE) and BBC Radio 3.
