Susan Jim is the University of Bristol’s new Perivoli Africa Research Centre (PARC) Manager and its Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Development Manager.

Susan has been responsible for Bristol’s engagement with the WUN since 2011 and for the past 3 years, she is also the Chair of the WUN Coordinators Group. Susan serves on WUN’s Global Challenge Steering Groups and its Global Africa Group.

With an interdisciplinary research background and 14 years’ experience as Manager of the University of Bristol’s Institute for Advanced Studies, Susan promotes cross-faculty interdisciplinary research and researcher mobility, and facilitates new projects, networks and partnerships on the Bristol university-wide level for PARC, and within the WUN: a global partnership of 23 universities in 13 countries, working together to support research and education in areas of global concern.

Susan read Chemistry with Studies in Continental Europe at the University of Bristol and the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie et Physique, University of Bordeaux, France. Susan was awarded a prestigious Wellcome Trust Bioarchaeology Studentship and a subsequent Fellowship to pursue her PhD (Analytical Chemistry, 2000) and postdoctoral research (2000-2005) at the Organic Geochemistry Unit, University of Bristol. Her work centred on the development of bone lipid and amino acid stable isotope values as proxies for diet, disease and mobility.

The current Global Challenges or collaborative research programmes that are being fostered by WUN are: Responding to Climate Change; Global Higher Education and Research; Public Health (Non-Communicable Disease), and Understanding Cultures. Specialist Interest Groups include Big Data, Economics, Global Africa Group and Global China Group.
