Summary

Biography

I trained in Sheffield, and moved to York to complete my GP training. Having grown up in Dorset I was keen to move my 3 children back nearer grandparents, so was delighted when my husband got a job in Bristol in 2007. I got involved with teaching initially on an ad-hoc basis, facilitating on the communication skills sessions across the undergraduate curriculum. I now work as a teaching fellow here at Bristol University and oversee the 4th Year Primary Care course, and have recently joined Long Ashton Surgery as a 3/4 time GP partner.

Teaching

I am responsible for the year 4 Primary Care course, which along with Dermatology and Care of the Elderly forms part of the Community Orientated Practice 2 Unit. I oversee the central teaching delivered both by lectures, and by small group work where students can hone their communication skills with simulated patients in realistic GP scenarios. I also oversee the students going out across the academies on GP placements and organise the assessments. Each student spends 4 weeks (usually one to one) with a GP, learning all the elements of the consultation and about the delivery of primary care in the UK.
