Research summary

My research focused mainly on the structure and function of the coronavirus replication machinery. I used forward and reverse genetics, coupled to sequencing, to study both coronavirus replication and pathogenesis. I also established coronavirus reverse genetics for the development of vaccines. My research included the study of human coronaviruses, in particular the SARS- and MERS-coronaviruses and animal coronaviruses of veterinary importance, for example, Feline coronavirus. I also study the genetics and pathogenesis of Murine hepatitis virus. I am particularly interested in the evolution of viruses in relation to the development of disease.
