Research summary

Current research interests:

The BBSRC Swine Flu Dynamics project.

In conjunction with Prof Mick Bailey at the School of Veterinary Sciences, and research partners at The Pirbright Institute, Cambridge, Oxford, the AHVLA (Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency, TGAC (The Genome Analysis Centre), and Industry partner Merial, we have recently been awarded a £4.4 million grant from the BBSRC to work on a long-term study on the transmission of swine influenza.

Biography

I qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Edinburgh in 1989 then spent 5 years in general practice. I then gained an MSc with distinction in Toxicology at the University of Surrey, followed by a PhD in Clinical Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol. In 1999 I took up a temporary lectureship in Veterinary Pathology at the University of Cambridge before returning to Bristol in 2002, where I am currently Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Pathology based at Bristol Veterinary School at Langford. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination in 2014.
