Biography

Maggie Boswell is employed part-time by the University of Bristol, and additionally works in a freelance capacity beyond the Centre for Aademic Language and Development (CALD).

At the University of Bristol, she is a Personal Tutor and teaches English for Academic Purposes (EAP) on the year-round International Foundation Programme (IFP). She instructs on the summer Pre-sessional programme, and throughout the year she delivers,  and has delivered on a range of programmes within the Learning English for Academic Development (LEAD) programme including: English for Engineers, Academic Listening and Speaking (ALS) and Academic Reading and Writing (ARW) course as part of the Advanced English Language Studies. Additionally, she facilitates, and has facilitated on Academic Language and Literacy (ALL) for University of Bristol EDU U/G, MSc Economics and Finance students, MA Film and TV, MA Law and MA Education students. 

Profile:  

Born and educated in the UNESCO world heritage city of Bath, she is ensconced in a multitude of wide-ranging personal projects there in her free time, as well as being engaged in a freelance capacity overseas when away from University of Bristol. She has travelled extensively, having lived and worked abroad in Australia, North America, North Africa and Europe. She has taught English to overseas students since 2000 and taught EAP at University of Bristol in the Centre for Academic Language Development (formerly CELFS) since 2013, and she has taught both insessional and pre-sessional at the University of Bath.

She is in possession of wide and varied experience including management. Indeed, she held the post of Academic Director at a UK based International Language College between 2011 and 2013, preparing students for progression into the British education system, prior to returning to Higher Education employment. She has experience of examining and business training, and possesses acquired and evolved skills in delivering EAP, English for Business and General English as well as English for exams Preparation (Cambridge and IELTS).

She is on the board of International ESOL examiners for Trinity College London, and for whom she additionally examines Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) approved by UKVI, part of the Home Office. She is proactive in her Continuing Professional Development and life long learning having achieved accreditation as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in May 2019. She is currently working towards accreditation for becoming a Fellow of British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP).
