Research summary

Research interests have included network reliability; interference identification, avoidance and management; adaptive MAC protocols with QoS support and practical applications of formal mathematical methods. Also involved with some (hobby level) hands-on programming and electronics with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.

Participated in 3GPP standardisation for next generation ("5G") cellular and Machine Type Communications (M2M/IoT); previously contributed to IEEE 802.11ax (HEW) and the oneM2M Release 1 specifications. Invented patented improvements to the Bluetooth 1.1 specification in the area of coexistence within the 2.4GHz ISM band, contributed to both the IEEE 802.11n WLAN standard and European collaborative projects ...

Dr. Russell J. Haines is now an Institute of Physics Scholar, undertaking a PGCE to train as a secondary education Science (Physics) teacher.

He holds a first-class BEng(Hons) degree and a PhD from the University of Bristol. He is a a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered Manager, and has been awarded Fellowship of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Fellowship of the Chartered Management Institute, and Senior Membership of both the IEEE and ACM.
