Summary

My recent research has looked at the potential of non-symmetric composite laminates to improve structural performance in geometrically non-symmetrical structures, such as stringer run-outs. I have been involved with the HiPerDuCT program to investigate the non-linear responses of hierarchical helical lattice systems coupled with restraints in order to produce pseudo-ductile behaviour.

My current focus has been developing novel computational analysis techniques in order to improve the efficiency of semi-analytical approaches to composite optimisation for variable stiffness plates. I developed a triple-product approach using Legendre polynomials that is an order of magnitude faster than traditional quadrature. In addition, I have also been investigating the potential to use heated vasucles to control thermal gradients to improve cure quality in thick composite components.

 

Biography

  • I graduated from the University of Warwick in 2007 with a BSc in Mathematics and Physics.
  • I went on to study Civil Engineering at UCL where I gained a distinction in both my GDip and MSc in 2009 - My research dissertation investigated the non-linear wave profiles generated in tuned sloshing dampers in order to predict their energy absorbing capabilities. 
  • I completed my PhD at the University of Bristol within ACCIS in 2014 where I investigated beneficial performance characteristics of non-symmetric composite laminates, specifically with application to stringer run-outs.
  • I became a teaching associate in Civil engineering in 2013 where I became unit director for the second year computational modelling unit. 
  • I began my post doctoral research post for HiPerDuCT in ACCIS in 2014. 
  • I became Lecturer in Composites structures in 2015 as part of the ACCIS research group and continue teaching in civil engineering.

  • Third year research project supervisor.
  • Co-organisor for Matlab and FEA analysis projects for the ACCIS CDT.
