Dr Erdin Ibraim

Biography

Dr Erdin Ibraim is Senior Lecturer of Civil Engineering since 2007 and was appointed as Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol in 2000, joining the Geomechanics Group.  Prior to the current appointment, Dr Ibraim held a two year Research Assistantship position at the Ecole Nationale des Travaux Publics de l'Etat (ENTPE) of Lyon, France  working on the Seismic vulnerability of existing buildings: small amplitude in situ measurements and analytical formulation of the seismic integrity threshold. In the same establishment, Dr Ibraim was awarded a PhD in 1998 (Différents aspects du comportement des sables à partir d’essais triaxiaux: des petites déformations à la liquéfaction statique) and MSc in 1993 (Comportement de sables à l’aide d’essai sur cylinder creux: observations expérimentales et conditions d’utilisation de capteurs sans contact).  He was the beneficiary of University of Bristol Research Fellowship (2005-2006).

Dr Erdin Ibraim is an Editorial Board member for Géotechnique Journal since December 2010 and a member of the Editorial Board and Coordinator for Europe of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) Bulletin since March 2009.  Since November 2009, he is also serving as member of the ISSMGE Student and Young Member Presidential Group (SYMPG).

Dr Erdin Ibraim is a core member of the ISSMGE Technical Committee TC101: Laboratory Stress Strength Testing of Geomaterials (since October 2010).  He is also a member of British Geotechnical Association (BGA) since 2008, Association Française de Génie Parasismique (AFPS) since 1998, and has been a member of Alliance of Laboratories in Europe for Research and Technology (ALERT Geomaterials).

Dr Erdin Ibraim is Reader in Geomechanics since 2011 and was appointed as Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol in 2000, joining the Geomechanics Group.  Prior to the current appointment, Dr Ibraim held a two year Research Assistantship position at the Ecole Nationale des Travaux Publics (ENTPE) of Lyon, France working on the Seismic vulnerability of existing buildings: small amplitude in situ measurements and analytical formulation of the seismic integrity threshold. Dr Erdin Ibraim developed a strong focus on the fundamentals of soil behaviour and advance laboratory characterisation of geomaterials.  He is also known for the state of the art work conducted on fibre reinforced soils.  He was the Principal Investigator on several EPSRC projects: GR/R57645 studying the behaviour of sand characteristics in the small and medium strain domains and on the joint EP/G064180 and EP/G064954 studying the micromechanics of seismic wave propagation in granular materials (with Imperial College London) and Co-I for EP/H015345/1 and EP/H015345/2 on the dynamic pile-soil-interaction in liquefiable soils (with University of Surrey, Unversity of Oxford).  He has recently been involved as sub-contractor of an EU grant: Innovative solutions to scale-up urban green surfaces (ScalinGreen, SC5-20-2014, SME-2), and was the recipient of Royal Academy of Engineering: Newton Research Collaboration Programme with Brazil, NRCP1415/2/2, and Distinguish Visiting Fellowship, DVF1415/2/62.

Dr Erdin Ibraim served in the Editorial Board of Géotechnique Journal between 2010 and 2014 and was a member of the Editorial Board and Coordinator for Europe of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) Bulletin between 2009 and 2014.  He is a member of Editorial Board of Road Materials and Pavement Design Journal. He is also serving as Vice-Chair of ISSMGE International Technical Committee TC101: Laboratory Testing of Geomaterials. He is also a member of the International Technical Committee TC: Soil reinforcement since 2011, of British Geotechnical Association (BGA) since 2008, Association Française de Génie Parasismique (AFPS) since 1998, and has been a member of Alliance of Laboratories in Europe for Research and Technology (ALERT Geomaterials). He has been the Chairman of the organising committee for the International Workshop, Wave propagation and soil stiffness: particle-continuum duality Workshop, Bristol, March 2014 and is the Co-Chairman of the organising committee for the ISGlasgow2019, Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials, Glasgow 2019.
