Biography

Christine Valente is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Economics and an IZA Research Fellow. Valente received an undergraduate degree (“Maîtrise”) and research Master’s degree (“DEA”) from Université Paris 1-Panthéon Sorbonne and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Sheffield in 2001, 2002 and 2008 respectively.

Her main research interests lie in household decisions regarding fertility and human capital investments in developing countries. She has published a number of applied microeconometric studies of secondary datasets in, among others, the Journal of Development Economics and Journal of Health Economics. More recently, she has led a randomized controlled trial in Mozambican primary schools co-funded by the World Bank and the International Growth Centre (joint with Damien de Walque, World Bank) and a project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation collecting novel data on demand for contraception in Mozambique (joint with Grant Miller (Stanford) and Áureo de Paula (UCL)).
