I am a Sociologist of Education, interested in problems of educational disadvantage, marginalisation and exclusion and crucially also in exploring solutions involving discourse, agency and critical pedagogies. As a Secondary School teacher in schools in challenging circumstances for over 15 years, much of my research is ethnographic and I prefer a grounded theory approach to analysis in order to allow the voices of the marginalised to shine through.
I currently teach at Undergrauate and Masters level as well as supervising students on UG, Masters, EdD and PhD programmes.
At UG I teach Learning Lives, Educational Statistics, Pedagogies for Social Justice.
At Masters I currently teach an open unit called 'Big ideas in Education'.
I also teach a short-course 'Changing Education'.
