Area of research

'Seeing inside flood embankments' – novel geophysical imaging approaches for assessing the health of safety–critical flood defence infrastructure (Supervisors: Prof. Jon Chambers, Prof. Mike Kendal & Prof.James Wookey)

Research summary

I am a PhD student at the university of Bristol, hosted by the British Geological Survey. My focus is on devloping non-invasive geophysical imaging technologies to rapidly assess the internal condition of safety crititcal water retaining structures including flood embankment and earthen dams. These techniques have the potential to provide detailed volumetric sub-surface information related to for example, lithology, strength, cavitation and moisture content – thereby greatly assisting in the condition assessment of these structures and early warning of failure.
