Inhibition and biology of tooth wear and dentine hypersensitivity

I am a member of the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) in Bristol Dental School, based in Bristol Dental Hospital.  The CTU carries out both lab based hard tissue research as well as running clinical trials to determine the efficacy of dental treatments that aim to reduce dentine hypersensitivity and/or erosion. In addition we have collaborations with other groups to look at the links between periodontal disease and other diseases, currently atheroschlerosis and Alzheimer's disease.  The CTU is also involved in studies to examine the prevention of plaque and gingivitis, the treatment of diseases of the periodontium, and soft and hard tissue regeneration in periodontology and implantology. I am involved in both lab based research as well as protocol development, trial preparation, and co-ordinating clinical trials while they are running. In addition I supervise post-graduate students when they come to write up the studies carried out in the Unit.
