Research summary

I am a member of the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) in Bristol Dental School, based in Bristol Dental Hospital.  The CTU carries out both lab based hard tissue research as well as running clinical trials to determine the efficacy of dental treatments that aim to reduce dentine hypersensitivity and/or erosion. I came to the Dental Hospital in 1991 a year after gaining my degree in Biological Sciences from the University of East Anglia.  I started out as a research technician in what was then, the Department of Child Dental Health and, following a move to Oral Medicine completed my PhD in 1998.  Since the introduction of the Human Tissue Act 2004 I have managed the human tissues used for research within the Dental School and am the Designated Individual on our licence.  I am also a point of contact for staff and students completing ethics applications, providing advice and guidance. In ...
