Summary

My research involves the genetic and chemical characterisation of natural products produced by fungi. I utilise techniques such as genome sequencing, bioinformatics, gene knockout and heterologous expression to investigate these compounds.

Biography

I graduated from the School of Biological Sciences, UoB, in 2006. I remained in Bristol for my PhD, studying fungal molecular biology, supervised by Dr. Colin Lazarus.

I then moved to the School of Chemistry, UoB to investigate the biosynthesis of fungal metabolites with interesting bioactive properties, in collaboration with the agrochemical company, Syngenta. I later moved to the Leibniz Universität Hannover, to continue this work with Professor Russell Cox.

In early 2016 I moved to the lab of Professor Rudolf Allemann, Cardiff University, investigating novel methods for increasing the terpenome.

I am now working with Dr. Andy Bailey, back in the School of Biological Sciences, UoB, studying the potential for novel bioactive compounds from underexplored fungal genomes.
