Research summary

Michael Basker's main research interests are in Silver Age literature, Pushkin, and nineteenth-century poetry. His many publications on the Acmeist poets Akhmatova and Gumilev make wide reference to the writings of their predecessors and elder, Symbolist contemporaries, on whom he has been working for many years.

He is one of the editors of the Russian ten-volume edition of Nikolai Gumilev's works, and has also edited English editions of Gumilev's works. (BA 1976) studied at Oxford University. During 1977-78 he was a British Council scholar at Moscow State University. He lectured in Russian Literature at the University of Lancaster from 1979-81, and has worked at Bristol since 1983.
