Research summary

My role as the Laboratory Manager is to oversee operations in the School of Geographical Sciences laboratory platform (BIOGAS, LOWTEX, AQUALAB, MICROLAB), manage the laboratory budget and technical staff and support and contribute to research and teaching activities in the laboratory.

In terms of research I am broadly interested in the biogeochemistry of nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) across a range of terrestrial and aquatic environments. My doctoral and postdoctoral research in soil biogeochemistry focuses on the effect of land use management and landscape position on nitrogen and carbon cycling and greenhouse gas emissions in terrestrial ecosystems. I have a BSc (hons) in Biology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece - 2002), where I specialised in Freshwater Ecology and specifically the use of macroinvertebrates as ecological indicators for assessing river water quality. I then moved to the UK where I obtained an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London (2003) focusing on environmental policy and water resource management. Between 2003 and 2005 I worked as a Water Framework Directive policy officer for Natural England and the School of Geography at Royal Holloway University of London.
