Personal profile

After 12 years of professional experience in the advertising and communication industry, I completed my PhD in Organisation and Management at HEC Paris School of Management in 2010. Since then I have held academic positions at the University of Laval (Quebec, Canada) and University of Liverpool, before joining the University of Bristol in September 2013.

My broad approach draws on social theory to address notions like power, legitimacy, competence and change. Using a sociological lens I study the different resources (cultural, social, technical, symbolic...) that communication and marketing professionals rely on to cope with dramatic changes in their field. In a period of intensive measurement and control of individual action, I analyse the emergence and consequences of new digital expertise based on the scrutiny of social life on Internet for commercial purpose.

More recently I developped an interest for non-conventional entrepreneurship. I currently study Aboriginal entrepreneurs in a Canadian reservation and I try to understand how tradition and modernity are embedded in successful organisations.

Fields of interest

Social theory. Communication consultancy. Competence and skills. Legitimacy. Internet measurement and scrutiny. Aboriginal entrepreneurship.
