Personal profile

Dr. Surya Mahdi holds a Bachelor and Master's degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Nancy 1, France, a Master's degree in Technology & Innovation Management and a PhD in Science & Technology Policy both from the University of Sussex, UK. At the University of Bristol, he is involved with the seminar in Strategic Management and in the teaching of Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Surya Mahdi's research interest is broadly around the issues surrounding the complex mechanisms of developing, collecting and/or converting necessary and critical knowledge and assets by any innovating agents such as Entrepreneurs, Start-Ups or even Firms to create their very first innovation outcome such as the very first workable prototypes or the very first Minimum Viable Products.

Previously, he has been involved in the teaching of "Strategy & Planning"; "Foresight & Strategy"; "Design Thinking for Innovation"; “Technology & Innovation Strategy”; “Innovation Management”; “New Venture Creation”; Entrepreneurship; “Organizational Behaviour”; as well as “Project & Program Management” at various institutions such as The Ministry of research & Technology of Indonesia (Indonesia), University of Indonesia (Indonesia), CRP-University of Wollongong (Australia), University of Sussex (UK), UWE (UK), the Performance Leaders Consulting (UAE) & Loughborough University (UK).

His professional career consists of working for various institutions such as Pharmaceutical Firm; Public Sector institutions; Consultancy Firms and Universities such as Sussex University, Cranfield School of Management, UWE and Loughborough University.

The clients of the research projects and consultancies of which he was involved in the past include GlaxoSmithKline, UK; Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada; Department Trade & Industry (DTI – now DIUS), UK; European Union (EU); Office of National Statistics (ONS), UK; Institute for Prospective Technology Studies (IPTS), Spain; Engineering & Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC), UK; Royal Commission on Environmental Protection (RCEP), UK; Advanced Institute of Management Research UK; South West Innovation Network (iNET) in Aerospace and Advanced Engineering, UK; CFMS Ltd.
