Research summary

Currently, Ioanna leads on the ‘Supporting Spoken Language in the Classroom’ knowledge exchange programme based at UCL Institute of Education which champions evidence based practice in schools to improve the oral language skills of all children and creates a unique forum for knowledge exchange between educational practitioners and researchers.

 Recent research work has included:

Ioanna is an educational psychologist interested in the educational and socio-emotional functioning of children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). I am particularly interested in elements supporting oral language within the classroom and universal interventions that aim to address language inequalities in children and develop communication supporting schools.

Other educational research interests include:

  • special educational needs and disabilities across the lifespan (with an emphasis on SLCN and autism),

  • parenting support and education,

  • interventions in the early years and

  • interventions targeting mental health needs in schools and other educational settings.
