Kate leads the Public Engagement team and is responsible for directing its programme of activities to support interaction and collaboration with society beyond academia. This includes coordinating the Engaged University Steering Group which oversees our strategy and priorities for engagement, and working with colleagues across the University to embed engagement in our structures and processes. As well as brokering partnerships with external organisations, she works with staff and students wishing to engage non-academic audiences, and to articulate engagement as part of the impact agenda. She is also working with colleagues on embedding engaged learning in the student curriculum.
Before joining the team in 2011, Kate worked at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, where she managed the public engagement programme and grant schemes. She also did a secondment at the Economic and Social Research Council where she was responsible for the development and implementation of their Science in Society strategy. Her PhD in bioscience engineering focused on the fabrication and processing of nanoparticles for use in gene therapy and drug delivery.
